I haven’t done Bikram Yoga since I was in college. Bikram is the same series of 26 postures, twice each (the second time usually pushing harder), lasting 90 minutes everywhere you take it. All of the teachers are taught by the man, Bikram, himself, so you can be confident if you do Bikram, you’re getting roughly the same experience as me doing Bikram half a world away.

The twist? You do all the postures in a room heated to literally 100 degrees F. I remember it being hot, but I swear I’ve never, ever, ever had a workout nor a sweat like I had at Funky Door Yoga in the Haight district of San Francisco. Most people opt to do this style of yoga in as little clothing as possible. I followed suit wearing a pair of euro-speedo swim trunks. A bit revealing, but believe me – while essentially working out in a sauna, checking people out is the last thing on anyones mind.

I went through an entire liter of water about half way through the class, and literally soaked a bath towel to the point where I could wring it out and see a puddle of my own sweat.

If you’re interested in a good workout, give it a shot. Seriously.

And I must say, I do see some results. I can already tell I’m in way better shape: we both look and feel way better.
